Follow the steps to fix the sound-related problems in Kali Linux. Open terminal to update, upgrade and install libasound2, alsa-utils, alsa-oss

 $ sudo apt update; sudo apt upgrade 

 $ sudo apt-get install libasound2 alsa-utils alsa-oss 

Step 2 Launch alsamixer Launch alsamixer to check if sound system is on mute mode by default.

 $ alsamixer 

If it is visible M as shown in the image below means your system is in a mute state.

Press m on your keyboard to unmute. Verify from the image below.
If you are still not getting the sound press f6 on your keyboard to select the sound card. Press the up and down arrow key to choose from and hit enter as shown in the image below

Press Esc key to exit from alsamixer prompt. Run the command to avoid the same error after reboot

 $ systemctl --user enable pulseaudio && systemctl --user start pulseaudio
